Off Centre 2017

Off Centre is a hand painted glass window that depicts evocative abstract shapes combined with fragments of familiar of architecture.

Off Centre contrasts the symmetry of both the train guideways and the station architecture with its escalator. The term off-centre also makes reference to this area of the city that is, while a centre in its own right is located outside of the downtown core.

The artwork makes direct links to things, like vessels, screens and human forms, recognizable to everyone . The vertical shapes with curved borders evoke play, movement and dance against a background of decorative, patterned geometries. The broad colour palette reflects on the diverse fabric of this community.

Off Centre is like a traditional stained glass window, and as such allows for the introduction of colour and light into the interior space during the day time and like a beacon or lantern transmits light to the outside at night.

Off Centre was produced by hand painting by Mayer of Munich in Munich, Germany
